From the digital liner notes:
For a long time now, I’ve debated whether or not to release these recordings. I feel that music served an important part in my recovery. But, while it was important to me at the time, I wondered whether or not it was important enough in all the other ways in which something must be important in order for it to be given away and called “art.”
But when I think back to the days of my treatment, I’m reminded that the release of these songs was very important to me. I recall that the recording and release of this album was a goal I set for myself that gave me focus and strength during chemotherapy.
Which is, I think, exactly what art is. Something that helps us to continue, through whatever adversity might come. Something that gives us strength; something that gives us hope.
I’d like to dedicate this album to Sherman Hospital in Elgin, IL, and especially to the oncology nurses, Cheri and Sally, who took such good care of me during such a difficult time.
And to those who have had, or are currently battling cancer in it’s many forms, I hope that this music helps you to continue.
